A quick one this week: I’m going on my first road trip with Matisse. We’re driving eight hours south to Shawnee National Forest, at the southern tip of Illinois, and in the path of totality for Monday’s solar eclipse. We’ll be camping and hiking with some friends and probably meeting a lot of people along the way. As I type this a voice on NPR says that thousands of people are expected in the town near where we’re going, which itself only has a population of five hundred.
We’re both excited (okay, Matisee is sleeping on the couch right now and has no idea what’s coming) and also, after reading Annie Dillard last night, somewhat terrified (thanks, Matt).
