🥟🧣 November 2024: Radiating Intent
Dumplings! Back in September I wrote about looking for steady part-time work, and I now find myself with not one but two side gigs. Three if you count my Antioch mentoring (though that’ll wrap next week).
One is an ongoing freelance editing gig at Every, and the other, codenamed CVG (I might need to come up with a better codename), is a short-term contract project that runs through the end of the year – with the potential to extend far beyond.
Early November was mostly setup, plugging into and learning different systems and rhythms, which is why I’m sending this DC update much later than my first-week-of-the-month target. As I wrote before, a chief reason I’m taking on these gigs (aside from the financial cushion) is to see if the external structure gives my fiction-writing hours something to push against.
So far? I’m waking up earlier and at a more consistent time (Rufus’s M/W/F daycare schedule has helped too), and I’m reserving Wednesdays as a day exclusively for personal projects. Is being busy good for people with ADHD? So far it’s been good for this particular person.
One more thing: these side gigs all came about because I mentioned to nearly everyone I talked to that I was looking for steady part-time work. I heard from a couple of you Dumplings about it as well! And this week I found a name for what I was doing: radiating intent.
